San Diego is projected to be the fastest-growing region in California. San Diego’s economic base is diversified and possesses a number of strengths which will be the foundation for job growth in this decade.

• With a gross regional product of $152 billion, the San Diego region ranks as the world’s 38-largest economy.
• Between 2007 and 2017, job levels are projected to increase by 17.2% or by nearly 247,000 jobs — compared with 13.3% in California and 10.6% in the nation.
• San Diego is the third-largest biotech area in the nation.
• 64% of SignOnSanDiego.com visitors and 44% of Union-Tribune readers are employed in a “white collar” occupation.
• 19% of Union-Tribune readers are pursuing continuing education.
